Cranial Restructuring / Re: Palate Expanders Usage

It's not me, but there's a young man (26) on YouTube named PJ Wilson - check out his great channel. This image is him using ALF (Adult Lightwear Functionals) after 9 months with a holistic dentist. He is expanding his palette and correcting an underbite without surgery:

This is his latest video: https://youtu.be/CxQJ755ZCeQ

I'm really encouraged and had other members suggest this to me. I'll be asking an Orthotropics dentist about it from a consultation, even though I can't yet afford care...

His profile is amazing and smile looks so different!!!

That cheekbone expanding looks promising. Just tried it out; think I'm going to add it to my routine. Great Post!!!

Hello, may I ask which expander have you bought? I thought that there wasn't really anything risky about expanding, since if you have a narrow jaw, widening is always beneficial.

I read that you should turn the screw 1-2 times a day for rapid palatal expansion and that will result in a gap between the front teeth which should get closed naturally by time.

If you expand once per two days, you probably won't see a gap because your teeth will accomodate to the new position fairly quickly.

The palatal expander is currently my only option as my situation isn't so bad that I'd risk going under the knife.

A doctor said here: https://www.realself.com/question/removable-palate-exapanders-effective-fixed, " The key is to have physiologic expansion with a removable appliance putting pressure to the roof of the mouth, not the teeth and using no more than 2-3 activations (1/4 mm each) per week.  "

So watch out with how fast your expanding. To be safe I'd keep it to 1-2 "activations" per week. Also "activations" is a loose word, a different palate expander might expand by a different amount per turn. You should measure how much your palate expander expands per turn and keep it below 1/4 mm per week.

I say I have some pretty good progress from a myobrace, jawzrsize and  good tongue posture. I have some pictures that show progress. They aren't perfect medical quality photos  (seems like the only progress pics people have are shitty ones, haha.), but they're better than a lot of the ones I have seen. Im still debating if I want to put myself on the interwebs, I might do it after I finish my palate expansion/ face pulling (havent started yet). I had a receding lower jaw that I was able to move forward with the myobrace/jawzrsize through muscle training. I stopped mouth breathing in my sleep and my nose is never clogged.  I had very week masseters; they're alright now, so I've gained some good lower jaw width. The jawzrsize is pretty safe, but the gains are limited. The myobrace has done some expansion, but its probably mostly teeth tipping. The myobrace does help with facial posture though, especially during sleeping.

I must say I'm not having great success with face pulling or belt pulling. Its quite clear I have damaged my face pretty badly now and have an issue with gums receding from my teeth being compressed far up into my gums. also the palatal expander I is just  tipping my teeth (its expanding my arch but not my jaw,  maybe because i'm expanding too fast or due to the palate being fused, probably the latter). On top of that I have bad TMJ which was made worse. I have to question people goals on doing this. I myself have come to realize Ive been deluded and self conscious with my facial appearance even though I had a pretty good facial structure (just mild crowding of teeth and uneven jaw joint, moderate TMJ, tooth grinding, no extractions or ortho etc. and overall good facial structure)

I mean Its great people claim their achieving positive changes. But are they? NO concrete evidence just hope. I think I personally awakened to how stupid I am to believe some of this stuff and the belt pulling theory to advance the jaws etc. In my mind common sense goes out of the windows sometimes (believing an internet belt pulling theory rationalizes and puts in context my naivety and gullibility approaching many of life's situations, I'm only 19 though so I've learnt over this)  Ive wasted alot of time and money to hurt myself and destroy my face.  I'm seeking help from an orthodontist and a maxillo facial surgeon to correct my jaw alignment with advancement and aswell as that, with absolutely no ****, I want to get opinions on all of this. Explain to him all the posts and people experiences to get his verdict.

I already was a bit 'mental' and opening up about this to real medics / doctors will make me seem insane but atleast im in the hands of medical professionals. Self treatment is ridiculous. Im just lucky I have good financial backing with friends and family to fund the facial surgery and the orthodontic pursuit which I should've looked into in the first place or accept myself how I was. The self treatment made it worse.

The more you find out you realize how we have been deeply deceived, the whole community is be taken advantage over (Claiming power had Surgically assisted maxillary expansion! nothing natural, he looks barely any better aswell absolute fraudster, Dont know if any of you know of the neymarjr scam which scammed many gullible desperate people of thousands of dollars over his 'maxilla advancement technique', Plato is just a businessman his online websites selling penile enlargement and sexually related products was the finally straw for me and really puts into perspective what we are dealing with here .All business guys, All looking to take advantage over you)

Everyone here is all very silent and just acts like this is the go to proven method, we are all doing this and for any new visitors to the site they get the impression it seems like it all works)
Posture and chewing is great its not going to do much when your an adult lets be real. I don't want to damage the hopes of people on this forum its all very optimistic positive but the truth is this is just pseudo science guys.

Id rather say the truth than sit in silence.
Good look to anyone on here with their goals, stay safe. (Im seriously worried there are people out there hurting themselves badly over all of this self treatment NCR / facepulling / belt pulling, You always here the good but never the bad)

I hear you 100%. We all know what we do here is risky; thanks for reminding us how risky it really is.

You're welcome, MJON. I'm starting with my removable palate expander and facepulling/NCR pretty soon.
I'll keep you guys updated and I'll see how many turns works with me. Interesting how you're turning the screws very slowly. Honestly, I'll probably be doing the same thing: I know I'll be expanding pretty slowly.

Keep us updated with the results  8) !

Look into ncr and face pulling with a removable palate expander. This is what seems to be the current trend. Lurk the forum see what you can find. I'd recommend getting a myobrace if you're not as serious. Tongue posture and chewing/jaw exercise is hella important. It may seem weird at first, but after six months, personally I've noticed the benefits and it's become very habitual. Good luck!

@therealadam

Curious where did you get your myobrace, and what size?. I have one of the cheap replicas, I dont even think it is even a myobrace just a plastic gum shield with a hole (more of a retainer sorta thing). I need something to stop my mouth breathing at night and the myobrace looks like it would benefit me.
Hey sorry for the late reply, was out of the country for vacation and didn't have any internet. I bought both the the A2 and A1 palate expander. I got the A2 from eBay, there are myobraces there occasionally. I got my A1 from alibaba: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Myobrace-A1-Appliance-for-tooth-crowding_60515825254.html. I don't know if it was this exact seller that I bought from. You can also get the A2 from alibaba, but I would suggest buying the A1. The hard plastic of the A2 and the A3 expand too fast and just tip your teeth. The A2 and the A3 are also described (I think) on the myobrace website to be used for primarily the alignment of the teeth (A2) and as a retainer (A3).

I bought the regular size; I don't know if they have other sizes. If I were you, Id buy a large too and see which one is better.

I modified my myobrace because it doesn't cause too much expansion on its own and I think you would plateau very quickly. I also think if you had a large palate already, it might actually make it smaller.

Well, how long do you have to wear your retainers? Can't you just palate expand when you get them removed?  I think that the palate expander should act as a retainer, but I am a very uninformed opinion.

I am about to order this with the impression kit since I don't have any casts done for my teeth but what the hell are the headgear tubes? Should I order them? And does everything I need come with this? Or do I need screws etc?

I think it comes with everything. What you might need is a "key" to turn the screws. Here's a picture: https://www.jco-online.com/files/product-news/2006_06/Leone_ZoomRax2_b.jpg. Also, I would suggest maybe getting the removable palate expander: http://www.bracesshop.de/Fake-Braces/Plate-Upper-jaw::51.html because you can facepull with it.

Goodluck! Post progress.

Not so great, I've basically given up until I can afford to have ALF and professional help alongside it. I think it really helps having a bit of both- self driven improvement but also a professional input. Having said that, if you just want to do NCR I think it's fine without professional help.
That's disappointing to hear. I hope you see good results with ALF.  I've ordered a removable palate expander that I'm going to use for face pulling (with rubber bands and a hockey helmet).

So far I've used a myobrace that I've modified into a pseudo palate expander. It provides outward forces on the teeth, but doesn't put out enough force onto the soft palate to expand too much. Both my upper and lower palates have expanded; I think it is mostly teeth tipping and maybe some bone remodeling. I've gotten better facial symmetry and good tongue posture. The myobrace is nice because it makes good mewing posture easy and it stops me from mouthbreathing in my sleep; gives decent jaw gains too.

I've also been using a Jawzrsize. This I would recommend to people. Gotten some good hypertrophy in the masticators. It and with other facial exercises have made my face more symmetrical and lifted my cheeks.

MJON, about the screws and the amount of expansion you want,  a doctor said here: https://www.realself.com/question/removable-palate-exapanders-effective-fixed, " The key is to have physiologic expansion with a removable appliance putting pressure to the roof of the mouth, not the teeth and using no more than 2-3 activations (1/4 mm each) per week.  "

also can you guys share some resources for self-ncr? I bought the plate expander and I'll be using it with face pulling and hopefully, self-ncr.

Thank you! I am wearing permanent retainers from conventional braces now though, would it screw up with the palate expansion? I am guessing not since the palate expansion expands the outer teeth and not the front teeth, and my retainer only sits in the front teeth, but I want to be sure.

Thanks again, seriously, appreciate it, finally I can fix my smile.

I don't think you'd be able to wear both because the palate expander will basically be like wearing a full sized retainer. The palate expander should also act like a retainer for your front teeth.

also btw any of you guys have resources for self ncr?

http://www.bracesshop.net/Fake-Braces/Offer-Modified-Upper-Lower-Stretching-Plate::80.html

First one is the upper Jaw plate which I purchased, second link is the full upper jaw stretching plate which has extra screws by the rear molars. If I would buy again I would buy the full upper jaw stretching plate. Ive also linked to a combo deal which comes with a lower jaw plate. Cant comment on lower jaw expansion its really difficult to expand the lower jaw so probably not worth it. As you advance and swing the maxilla upwards the lower jaw naturally comes up anyways and makes up for the distance (So i've been told).

You wouldn't need a retainer if you had really good oral posture. Your tongue to the palate would support the teeth.
yeah totally agree, bought the upper jaw plate as a starter.

I'm a bit dubious about the stretching plate, especially if you were to do it without the help of a dentist. It would push the front teeth forward, but also push the rear teeth back. If you were to buy the stretching plate because you wanted to use the stretching feature, Id say to just face pull with the upper jaw plate.

I had some guy name me this:http://www.bracesshop.de/
I ordered a pair but they are yet to arrive, so I cannot guarantee they're the best.
Let me know of any others! 8)
