Nope, it's more simple than that. If it works, I will let you know soon.

Although I can't speak for the mandible catch up, I can safely say that the lower jaw does expand or tilt as the upper one gets wider. I have successfully expanded my maxilla by 7mm and the only moments I felt my teeth don't quite match was when I took out the expander after I had turned the screw. After doing some chewing, the problem was always fixed.

I'm currently testing a method I developed which pulls the maxilla up and forward during sleep, so hopefully I will be able to answer your question soon. I will let you know when I get some results.

Wow, well that sucks!

Seems like Bracesshop is overwhelmed by disciples of Mike Mew and the guinea-pigs of DIY orthodontics.

Oral posture surely is better than nothing, but it's not really enough to achieve prominent expansion. If you, like me, have very narrow face, flat cheekbones and dead-like eyes, you really have nothing to loose with the expander.

How to Expand like a Pro in a Nutshell

Based both on internet research and personal experience.

You order your expander (="Active Plate" for the upper jaw) including the impression kit from bracesshop.de. They send you the kit first, you make your impressions and send it back to them. Within two weeks they send you your custom made expander. Voilą, it fits perfectly.

I expand approximately one turn (=0.25 mm) every other day. The max amount of expansion for this expander is 8.5 mm.

Thanks to the fact that I have gone through traditional orthodontic treatment, I have a very good sense of what pressure and pain is "normal" and what could possibly be harmful for my teeth and jaw. If I was able to wear the expander during the whole day, I think I could expand even faster, maybe one turn every day.

Hello, I think Mike Mew said 1 mm per week, which should be 2-3 turns per week - that applies to the upper jaw. I don't think that you need to expand the lower jaw - the lower teeth should shift outward as you keep expanding the upper plate, just remember to keep your mouth shut and your teeth together.

Cranial Restructuring / Do I need headgear tubes?
« on: March 14, 2017, 09:39:49 am »
Hello, I would like to order fake upper plate from the bracesshop de. I know there are some people who ordered from there already. I would like to know what are those headgear tubes and if I should order them as well? Thank you.

I'm not turning anything yet, I'm still wearing fixed braces so I cant purchase the fake palate expander yet. I was thinking rather one turn per few days for safety. So which one of the expanders have you got?

Hello, may I ask which expander have you bought? I thought that there wasn't really anything risky about expanding, since if you have a narrow jaw, widening is always beneficial.

I read that you should turn the screw 1-2 times a day for rapid palatal expansion and that will result in a gap between the front teeth which should get closed naturally by time.

If you expand once per two days, you probably won't see a gap because your teeth will accomodate to the new position fairly quickly.

The palatal expander is currently my only option as my situation isn't so bad that I'd risk going under the knife.

Hello, in this video on YT - "Is Palatal Expansion Possible in Adults by Dr Mike Mew" - Mew says that he aims for 1mm per week. I don't have any personal experience with expansion yet, but I believe that it should expand the maxilla too.

Search "orthosmile - expander" on Youtube and see how it works. I believe that expanding the upper plate is enough. I'm currently wearing braces, but when I get them off, I plan on buying the fake upper jaw expander and get wider smile and face too.

@Betterbytheday

I think that the lower teeth tilt in a way to match the upper palate if you keep your mouth closed and teeth together while widening. Search "Orthosmile - Expander" on Youtube - it's shown in the beginning of the video.

Thank you for your answer!

Yes, wider face is always a good thing. I actually think that the width of the face/skull is the most important factor in the terms of beauty. If someone's maxilla is down and back, but is wide enough, the person can still have a beautiful face I believe. It's also much easier to widen the jaw than to move up or forward.

I suppose I should wait with the impressions then. I don't want to spend so much money on this if it might not be done correctly just because of my impatience.

I'm also a bit confused why do they require VAT registration number for people living in EU countries when the VAT is already included in the price and the braces aren't sold for medical purposes anyway? Why does an European have to be an entrepreneur or own a company to be able to order from their shop? It makes it a bit difficult for me to get the bracces now. Can I ask, in the case you live in EU, how did you handle this? Have you ordered on someone else's name?

Hello, may I ask how is your progress MJON?

I too am interested in buying the upper plate from the German eshop. I think, since it's a JAW plate, not a palatal expander, it could possibly expand the whole upper jaw and thus make the WHOLE HEAD bigger. That would make a ton of difference in looks.

I'm a bit uncertain though, I currently have fixed braces, which are supposed to get off within few months. I would like to get it made sooner than that, due to the lenght of processing time. Do you think it would be possible to make impressions while wearing braces? I watched the instructational video and I'm not sure - does the mass harden completely during the 5 minutes in mouth, or is it the water that makes it tough?
