Cranial Restructuring / Re: Vitamin K2 & D3 for Facial growth

Yep.  Weston. A. Price was one of the first to discover 'Activator X' which was abundant in the diets of tribal people.  Many believe that this was what we now call, vitamin K2.  Our gut flora is supposed to make it for us.  Stephen Guyenet talks a lot about K2 on his blog.  But poor gut function, poor diet etc. and artificial light according to Dr Jack Kruse, can prevent the gut flora from making it.  In fact, artificial light can cause weak bones/muscles, in general.

Ok, thanks. I'll re-read some of his articles, pronto!

Thanks for your replies, both.  Much appreciated! It would be much cheaper to only need an upper expander.

That said, I have a mild overbite and my lower front teeth are crowded, despite having 4 pre-molars extracted for braces, when I was a teen. (Huge regret. Did nothing for me, except take my healthy teeth!).  I was worried that the upper palate would become more 'C' shaped following expansion, but the lower would still be narrow and inside the 'C'.

What happens to the lower dental arch, when you have an upper palate expander?

Does the lower widen by itself, to meet the upper arch?  Or, do you need a lower expander, too? Would the upper arch, go outside of the lower arch, if you see what I mean?

There's a thread on this site, where a few users tried a mouthguard and a shoelace.  They got a moldable mouthguard, (think Amazon sells), punched holes in it to thread the shoelace through, inserted over teeth, and proceeded to pull the laces upwards/forwards with their hands.  They posted a photo of it on,  'What are people's face pulling experiences?'  thread.

Looks like there's no force on the chin or forehead.  But,  I wonder if having something over the teeth would mess up the bite...Maybe if it's only done a few mins at a time, it's ok :-\

MJON, do you find the acrylic of the expander, is bulky or affecting proper tongue posture? Then again, I guess they all do, unless they're ALF and it's hard to find anyone who offers it (plus, costly). You're right though-many ortho's are still extracting, unfortunately...

Really hope it goes well for you :)  Let us know how you progress!

Yeah, they mainly sell fake braces.   Funnily enough, they also sell fully functioning palate expanders with screws, retainers and other otho equipment.  They even send impressions kits, so it's made to measure.  Someone on CP's forum, also got the 'Y Plate' expander, but there are other ones, too.

Problem is, you'd be overseeing your own treatment, essentially. How would you know if it was going wrong?  Might be worth asking a willing, ortho to check on your progress,  if any of us try this.

Certainly with me, my lower teeth are crowded, but my bite is ok, so if I just got an upper expander, I'd mess it up.  That said, I'm seriously considering  getting something from there..

Will do.  And thank you for your encouraging words :)

You're right.  It probably is my perception because I'm paying more attention to things that didn't bother me, before.  Now that I'm trying to make changes, I'm taking notice of every little thing.  For example, I didn't realise that my head posture, when looking in the mirror, is rarely straight on.  Either, my head is tilted back/eyes down, or it's tilted forward/eyes up. Now, I'm noticing how my eyes look with the correct posture.

That said, the sclera isn't terrible.  Not at all.  In fact, someone would only notice if they're really close up.  But, because I'm aware that there isn't supposed to be any at all, I'm more picky about it, I guess....

I've re-started face pulling, but more gently this time.  Think my face looks a tad fuller?  But, other times, I think I'm imagining it!  Not sure what the feelings are above my eyes... Perhaps the pulling is doing something to my sinuses.

Will proceed with caution from now on, just in case it's not helping, as you say.  But, if things improve, I wouldn't rule out some self-NCR in the future, if I can learn how to do it.

Well, that's one thing less to worry about! Thanks @Improvement

Last week, I tried face pulling for the first time, by clenching my molars down on the middle of a ribbon, and pulling the ends, up.  I've been worried ever since.  Firstly, because I felt aches in my forehead and the area just above my eyebrows. (I'm female, so I don't want a thickened ridge above my brows!). No feelings in my cheekbones, either.

Secondly, I've now got a tiny bit of sclera showing under the right iris. (Got a little under my left iris, but it's been like that for years, and has remained unchanged).  I don't think my face has lengthened-looks much the same.  Plus, on another thread, it was suggested that, maybe my head posture had improved, but my maxilla has yet to swing up.

But, I've been scared that I damaged myself; that the face pulling is doing something to the top of my skull (which is narrow), or even, that it was rotating my maxilla the wrong way, somehow!  I had to be awkward..

Ah, gotcha.  Thanks for clearing that up! So, it doesn't matter if my teeth are in contact or not, when I'm face pulling.  But will the interaction with the device, cause the upper teeth to retrude? I'm a bit worried about this, especially as I have a 'tongue-between-molars' posture due to lack of space, and I tend to mouth breathe when I'm asleep...

Someone on CP's site, commented that every action, has an equal and opposite action.  Therefore, pushing the tongue too forcefully on the palate, can create just as much force, pushing downwards, which may cause facial lengthening.   They said, if the face feels tight, the maxilla can’t move forwards against tight muscles, either.

But, as long as the upwards force is gentle, keeping the teeth in full contact would offset any opposing, downward force, wouldn't it?

That said, when you're face-pulling (especially with a belt, or a mouthguard), it's hard to keep the teeth in full contact.  Also, what if, when the face is left to fully relax, all of the teeth and the lips tend to slightly, lose contact...Would face pulling retrude the upper teeth and create more distance between the top and bottom and lengthen the face, over time?

@nobody.  Thank you for your reply and diagram.

I get what you're saying...Over the past year, I think my back posture has become a bit straighter because I've been 'barefoot' exercising and wearing shoes, less.  This has resulted in strengthened ankles and straighter/more spaced out toes. (I believe Dr. Mew is currently doing research on the form /function of the feet, and body/oral posture, so that will be interesting...) Now, if I stand up straight and look straight ahead in the mirror, the sclera does show a tiny bit.

I think you're right that my posture is changing, but my maxilla hasn't swung upwards/forwards yet.. (Actually, the sclera probably isn't as bad as I imagine...It's not really noticeable unless looking close up. It also seems to go through periods of improving and regressing, which is things adjusting, perhaps)  Come to think of it, I've always had a 'tilted upwards' head and I guess my features just adapted to that, even though it wasn't optimal...

However, my side cheekbones came out a bit since I've been mewing.  However, I have a tongue-between-teeth thing happening on the right side of my dental arch, so I doubt my maxilla can properly go up/forwards, until that's sorted.  Can't for the life of me expand it with my tongue though.
