Try to imagine that the root of your tongue was attached to the insides of your ears, and then imagine lifting that visualized part of the tongue all the way up, as if you were trying to push the posterior tongue out of the ears and into the skull. Work towards getting more and more of the root of the tongue up. You should feel pressure around your ears and ramus, and you should find that the higher up towards the ears you can reach with the very root of the tongue, the less you will need to push with the anterior tongue against the hard palate, because support from the posterior tongue is enough to maintain the whole tongue in the correct posture alone.

Does attempting this make you gag?

No i think im just a bit worried that im not doing it correct then pushes it too far back. But everything seems to get better month by month, so im just gonna keep practicing :)

In my opinion the further back & up you can push tongue the better. The upper throat is so narrow area that cramming the posterior tongue up there will simultaneously generate pressure against the maxilla too. Like Th3No0n3 said, activating the very backmost part of the posterior tongue feels kind of like trying to swallow the tongue.

But doing whatever seems to work for you is of course the most important thing.

I imagine trying to swallow my tongue and that keeps my posterior up
That seems like a good way too.

Hi! Mewing the same amount of time. The back of the tongue takes more effort. Try and just do some so you aren't gagging... I started out feeling very constricted too, and it does adjust like he rest of the mouth. I don't think I can even fully "Mew" with my structure, so do the best you can :)

So i started out mewing circa 3 months ago, first it was really kinda difficult since the palate was a bit narrow and i managed to bite my tongue. Anyway, now my palatte seems to have gotten wider, and the tongue locks in to the hard palette without any trouble. What bothers me is getting that lower back tongue up on the soft palette, either it blocks my airway, or gets to far back, giving me gagging reflexes. It seems to be impossible to get it up there without actually pushing hard, just pushing firmly will make it drop down eventually. And i have been struggling with this ever since i started  :-\ :-\ any tips?
