I will be using a homemade removable bone-bound palatal expander, which I will wear every night for 9-14 hours and for the remainder of the day will practice proper tongue posture and chew for 1-2 hours to maintain and stabilize the expansion. My desired expansion is 10 mm and I intend to attain maximum skeletal results, with high stability and minimal possibility of relapse. How many times should I turn the expander screw per week for this? Also is there a limit for how much expansion the mandibular teeth can compensate for? Will there be a point that I cross which will result in a scissor bite?
Another question I have is that I occasionally bite my tongue when my molars miss the gum that I am chewing. It is always the same spot as well, and because I am chewing with such high force, it results in immense pain, lots and lots of blood, and a sore, hurt tongue afterwards for days, making it also difficult to swallow and talk. What causes this and how can I prevent this?
I am 17 years old, if that is relevant.
