That you're young enough to just use proper tongue posture and force to get your ideal results without a device.

But other than that, sure. It pulls up and forward. Don't go to quickly too soon and stop for a long break if you ever feel pain

17
Yep I know exactly what you're talking about and I've got them too now  ;D

Aesthetic contrast on parts of the face. Just a slight line of shadow under the cheekbone from the ear to the nose, and a hollow area near the mouth and under the jaw depending on the lighting for me.

Small mm changes = huge aesthetic difference

Pay closer attention to how the screws interact, they are not the same device.  The force vectors are applied in different directions depending on the order in which the screws are turned.

And it depends on the palate. Some may need even expansion across the whole palate, while others may only require force at the front or back of the palate.

So, for example, if the front of the palate/teeth are properly round and the palate caves inwards towards the rear teeth, then the modified expansion device would be unsuitable: It can not be used to expand at the rear without also expanding the front. The acrylic behind the canine teeth moves out just as far as the acrylic behind the molars.

Where as with, say, the Y plate one can expand the rear without moving the front, or also expand anterior forward while leaving the posterior as it is.

Use your tongue and how it fits in your mouth to see exactly where you need to put force.

I just want to mention on this post that we should all probably stop mentioning the website for expanders outside of personal messages. We've only got one source for this stuff and there is a message that self-use isn't condoned. The message which probably got put up as a result of people asking the website owner if they can do that. We don't want to end up pointing too many people (non posters who get here from google) at the website who then direct their questions to the website and cause them to stop taking orders completely.

We kind of need to protect this source since it's the only one, if it goes down then we're dead in the water in terms of this avenue of research

He seemed like a sketchy fellow, wouldn't even post parts of his face due to "professional reasons". He was also hellbent on promoting palate expansion as the most important treatment one can do. Either overly paranoid or a bracesshop shill  ;D

Dun kill my hopes Progress  :'(

I went to an ortho who was all about the ALF, Endonasal, and orthotropics philosophy. He said more force than ALF was needed, so he showed me a few palate expanders no different than the ones we know about*. He says up to 1cm forward expansion and 7mm width. Now, he wants to go real slow like. Sneaky beaky like, creep so slow that it takes 2 years like. Also facial changes are minimal, the palate just expands

Now our nigga Mr. Mew understands how the entire thing needs to move as one piece. No growing the alveolar bone or pushing the teeth. The maxilla must be expanded and moved upward via growth along the palatial suture and pressure up and forwards by the tongue/appliance.

And the orthos I've seen say 1cm in 2 years, where as the OP on the thread on self expansion was going 1mm a week, AND Mew says 1mm a week. Which activates growth and movement along the sutures instead of local movement - according to multiple studies (I'm compiling all this info gimme a second on the sources. I might toss them all into a single post)

So, according to everything I have tried to dig up on the topic in the past 3 years I can get the expansion I need by buying the appliance myself and using a higher rate of expansion than the traditional dentist/orthodontists know but from what we have understood through our research.

There is definitely going to be the counter of "appeal to authority" of dentists/orthos having years of schooling that makes their opinions the ultimate authority on this topic. We already know that they are wrong about extraction orthodontics - when really the palate needs to be expanded. We already know that they believe the sutures fuse after puberty  - which we know is wrong through multiple studies AND because I sent ~30 emails to dentists asking for adult suture palate expansion and ~7 in MY AREA got back to me saying that they have routinely successful results while ~23 say it is impossible.

So using the info from the ortho (Free consult) I can purchase the same appliance that he intends to use on me over 1 years, but use the appliance as our other research suggests and go 1mm per week. Research shows I could spend $250 and 4 months instead of 2 years and $12 000.

I don't intend to go at any set rate of expansion - the body can tell me if I'm doing something incorrectly. I'm also getting the ABC chiro work done and will probably be into the endonasal once the appliance arrives (since I can't order yet).

I feel very comfortable and optimistic to perform this procedure myself. I'm sitting on a bunch of information that could just be pure speculation if this doesn't work out, but a complete gem if it does. I've got X-Rays and analysis of my current skull/teeth/spine. So I'm going to continue with ABC and endonsal, and see the expansion results, and then mew my way home to where my dome piece is supposed to be.

The results I see both in the mirror and on X-rays etc in about 6 months are what is going to tell me if I was barking at a shadow or if what we think we are understanding about the human body is truth or a mirage.

I've forgotten the name of the user, but the whole thread and all the posts are gone. Did something happen, is the user still around?

I'm on board with what you're saying, the dentist has the same philosophy 99% of what I'm looking for.

However, Mike Mew says he tries to expand ~1mm per week in adults, saying that this rate of change (or near it) is not only fully possible but best for transferring the force through the entire skull so all bones (like cheekbones and upper maxilla) will grow and shift during the expansion.

The dentists I have consulted who subscribe to adult palate expansion (anywhere) don't do this rate,  they do it very slowly to so that you only come in once a month and they can monitor a bunch of cases slowly over time. This causes (according to theories) the aloveor process to be re-shaped by the local force but isn't enough force/time (ie impulse in physics) to travel to a wider area and cause growth at multiple skull sutures.

That is to say, they push hard and slow enough to cause the mouth to respond, but not enough to cause the entire skull to respond along with it

$8500 vs $250. It's $1000 alone to do all the imaging and tests before he'll order an expander.

Or is it possible to just ask the ortho to make you a device and let you do it yourself?

Has anyone come across an alternative to BracesShop? They've stopped taking orders until the 27th

I just decided to buy today, I can't believe the timing  :'(

I just got done the consultation. He says the ALF isn't enough force for me right now, he can finish with it but he needs to start with an acrylic expander.

And it'll take ~2 years. I think I'm just going to buy an expander

Of course, the day I find this out is the day that BracesShop stops taking orders until July 27. Can you believe that luck? I suppose I'll just wait, unless anyone knows an alternative to that website

Cranial Restructuring / Any experiences with the ALF appliance?
« on: July 12, 2017, 02:02:00 pm »
It seems to fit perfectly into the collective philosophy we all have about getting expansion and forward growth - it just mimicks proper tongue posture 24/7 and tries to do it in such a way that the patient can heal themselves by releasing the cranial bones allowing growth at the sutures (according to their official website and multiple dentists online). Combined with NCR this seems like the magic bullet to have the face grow how it was supposed to. I'm trying not to get over exited but I'm pretty exited

I've got an appointment tomorrow to ask about it, I'm still very weary about trusting dentists but since I have had extractions it seems that this may be helpful: My tongue doesn't maintain pressure at night because of palate size, so my results are super slow. Having the appliance up there 24/7 pushing out and forward gently should help.

I'll let you guys know what happens. But does anyone have experience with the appliance, or opinions? I've searched the forum and seen positive reviews.

Cranial Restructuring / Re: Another Update For You Guys

Awesome work, thanks for the update! Your account was one of the things that got me into mewing in the first place and believing it

Have you had any teeth extractions or dental work done? I've felt the bones change (and breathing drastically improve) with mewing, but I think I may get the ALF appliance because I don't think the bone wants to grow with no teeth to fill the gaps.

How about when sleeping, do you wake up with your tongue up there?

Yeah, that was my point. You cant apply forces in the right direction, right force, correct amount, forget about it. Neither you know them, nor you will do them. I have been saying this on every second post I make but I want to avoid anyone hurting himself, wanna know how I dislocated my jaw? Simply from chewing gum, neither it was long, nor it was wrong. I had been doing it for 40 minutes and it happened. You dont want to be in the place of tmd sufferer, believe me. But do what you want, cant save immature heads

Getting your jaw dislocated by chewing gum is an incredibly unique case, you've got something wrong with your jaw that most of the population doesn't need to worry about. You should take special precaution with everything you do, because your situation is messed up. Anyone who has such problems should take extra caution. You clearly didn't, because the jaw doesn't simply dislocate while chewing without clear discomfort beforehand - what you were doing was wrong. Those whose jaws function correctly can take less caution, and stop to rest when they feel discomfort.

Just because your situation is preventing your growth, don't be like a crab-in-the-bucket where you want everyone else to stop trying. We're figuring out the right direction, force, and amount of force to get correct growth. Multiple people here and elsewhere have said 30-40 minutes a day is the maximum to be pulling, and you shouldn't pull when you feel pain. And an upwards and forwards direction produces results, and coupling everything here with mewing/endonasal improves results dramatically. And others are seeing 5+mm of palate expansion with devices.

And you want us to stop because you injured yourself, as if that now has to be everyone else's problem. That's silly

I just want to note that this thread was going great until Betterbytheday showed up and started casting unreasonable doubt on everything. Even to the point of saying that the posterior of the tongue pushing the hard palate is bad for your gonial angle, which we know is not true.

I think it's viable to completely ignore anything betterbytheday said, their situation seems to be completely unique and their facial deterioration cannot be explained by facepulling or mewing

Any other progress updates, if anyone from this thread is still here?
Oh man, seriously f*ck off, the first time there was this other guy who flamed on BetterByTheDay's post and I was too lazy to comment, but now that there are two of you delusional ignorant souls I cant hold it. First of all there are only two testimonials with pictures of people who did belt facepulling and I havent seen the smile of both of them, neither has anyone who did face pulling talked about it. Have you seen what happens with the teeth when u expand the jaw in the course of 3 months? They look like abandoned wooden fence. So how do you think they are going to look when expanding and changing the whole skull in the course of 2 weeks. Have you seen people with bruxism and their teeth? They are half sunken in the gums, same with the belt, so I hope you understand that u just cant do this and to look perfect without having any professional work done. I dont know for how much time u have been into the topic but there are a lot of people who are pulling on the wrong places with wrong force and get all different results that are not what really is expected and there is no going back. Something else, someone once wrote that when pulling he felt his jaw more relaxed but after some time the sensation disappeared, so he though that maybe that is how the jaw is supposed to really be. Well, no, as strangely as it sounds it is because of dislocation of the TMJ, the lack of alignement of the TMJ can not only cause pain, but can also cause relaxation, something by which the people conducting the studies were very amazed by. And believe me, you dont want TMD, nothing is worth it. And what he was saying was truth, claiming power in the beginning was to help people, after that he was about the money. And honestly the only person who looked better after the face pulling with the hockey mask was patient zero, the others are just delusional seeing things that are not there and imo looking much worse with huge assymetry, sunken eyes because they have pulled the bone out of the eye support and so on. These things are hell and everybody is trapped in the torturing of his own mind, myself included, but at least dont be delusional and dumb about it.

You wrote a lot but didn't really say anything. If someone does the practice incorrectly, they will have incorrect results. Forces applied in the correct direction, in the correct amounts, produce correct results. An up and forward maxilla will always look better than a down/back one

Yo.

The Tongue used properly is more than sufficient for expansion, it must be emphasied thou that adult bones are much more resilient to growth as opposed to a teenagers.
Youll know when your doing this right as you will feel slight discomfort/pressure in your ears from the pushing.
Changes from this may only be 1 or 2mm and may take upwards of 3+ years in an adult, i know this because ive gained 1mm in 2 years and am 37 yrs old, it works and takes time.

I'm glad to hear about your results, I hope the improvement has been great for your health. Definitely feel that pressure in my ears when I mew, usually by around 6PM every day.

No doubt that the skull will change shape over time with correct force, I am looking for ways in which to speed the process up for adults. Have you done any NCR/endonasal?

Although it makes complete sense that the skull's shape SHOULD only change slowly (Rapid change would cause issues) I don't see why the body couldn't adapt to ~2-3mm a year of changes here. I have heard claims of up to 5mm maxilla advancement with NCR and facepulling (unverified, via the Orgoneproducts website IIRC).

On top of mewing/tongue posture are you trying anything else?
