Cranial Restructuring / Mewing is legit - despite my retainers
« on: April 07, 2018, 08:36:45 am »
So, I just wanted to post here (if you check my post history it was maybe a year ago I posted iirc) and say that Mewing has worked despite my retainers, which I thought would prevent any possible gains. I still have a less wider palate than I'd like but my cheekbones and jaw are very prominent, as well as an improvement in the eye area (due to better bone support).

I don't follow my regimen religiously anymore (supplements, MK-677 etc) but I have still gotten very good gains.

Now my only question is if I should perhaps take the retainer out and get a palate expander to achieve the best final results?

Cranial Restructuring / What can we do about a receded chin?
« on: January 13, 2017, 10:33:18 am »
I would look a lot better if my chin wasn't so terribly receded, since the receded chin makes my already big nose look even bigger.
Is there anything we can do here specifically to bring the chin forward?

I am about to order this with the impression kit since I don't have any casts done for my teeth but what the hell are the headgear tubes? Should I order them? And does everything I need come with this? Or do I need screws etc?

I think it comes with everything. What you might need is a "key" to turn the screws. Here's a picture: https://www.jco-online.com/files/product-news/2006_06/Leone_ZoomRax2_b.jpg. Also, I would suggest maybe getting the removable palate expander: http://www.bracesshop.de/Fake-Braces/Plate-Upper-jaw::51.html because you can facepull with it.

Goodluck! Post progress.

Indeed, but the removable palate expander would not work for me since I have permanent retainers, I don't think it would fit properly in my mouth.

Something like this:

Also, even if it would fit, I am in doubt whether palate expansion would work, since the retainer "retains" the position.

Well, how long do you have to wear your retainers? Can't you just palate expand when you get them removed?  I think that the palate expander should act as a retainer, but I am a very uninformed opinion.

The retainers are fixed so they will sit in permanently. What I don't understand is why I have to wear my removable retainer when I go to sleep, then what are the permanent retainers on the back of my incisors for?

From what I've seen, Mike Mew says 1mm per week is safe and anything more isn't great in his opinion...

The issue is that I won't know how much this expander can really do.
I'm guessing I'll just have to measure at home instead.

Hello, in this video on YT - "Is Palatal Expansion Possible in Adults by Dr Mike Mew" - Mew says that he aims for 1mm per week. I don't have any personal experience with expansion yet, but I believe that it should expand the maxilla too.

I see, but I'll be buying a palate expander to use on myself, so I don't have an orthodontist to watch me.
It's going to be this one

Cranial Restructuring / Flurbiprofen For Bone Growth
« on: January 05, 2017, 04:09:29 pm »
Flurbiprofen enhances growth and cancellous and cortical bone accumulation in rapidly growing long bones. - PubMed - NCBI
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=2660884

There was a decrease in osteoclast numbers (-62 to -70%), an insignificant decrease in osteoblast numbers (-5 to -30%) per mm of bone surface and a decrease in osteoclast to osteoblast ratio (-35 to -56%). The findings presented are compatible with the conclusion that flurbiprofen, induced changes in rapidly growing long bones by reducing osteoclast activity and recruitment, stimulating longitudinal and radial growth, increasing the cortical bone mass by stimulated periosteal bone growth and depressed endosteal resorption, and increasing cancellous bone mass by depressed trabecular bone resorption without affecting bone formation.

Flurbiprofen-induced stimulation of periosteal bone formation and inhibition of bone resorption in older rats. - PubMed - NCBI
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3248202

There was an insignificant increase in metaphyseal cancellous bone mass. The current study leads to the conclusion that flurbiprofen-stimulated periosteal bone growth was due to direct stimulation of osteoblast recruitment and activity independent of longitudinal bone growth. Further, it confirms early findings in young rats that flurbiprofen induced depressed bone resorption without lowering bone formation. However, because of insufficient treatment time, the older rat did not accumulate bone as the young rats did.

The later study is promising as it shows rapid bone growth even for mature rats with closed growth plates, although not to the same extent as the younger rats. If this were to be ran with an aromatase inhibitor and growth hormone, would it lead to more masculine characteristics and increased height - especially in teens with open growth plates (the aromatase inhibitor would prevent them from closing)?

I am considering this in combination with increasing my testosterone levels through hormones, diet, and exercise, and also supplementing with calcium, vitamin K2 MK-4, and D3.

Title says it all, thanks. I am wondering how long it will take for me to get a wider smile and face. Will palate expansion affect the maxilla too?

Cranial Restructuring / Re: Buccal Corridors
« on: January 02, 2017, 06:37:58 am »
Your tongue is a natural palate expander. If you can fit it between your teeth, use it. Retainers hold your teeth in place, not the maxilla.

I understand this, but I am still having trouble keeping my mouth shut when I am sleeping, I don't mouth breathe but my mouth falls open.
Are there no appliances I can use to speed up this process? Palate expander, etc?

Visibility of buccal corridors when smiling is directly correlated with how wide and forward your palate is. In ideal conditions a combination of facepulling, NCR and mewing may fix this over time. Are you sure you need to wear retainers even if you're mewing?

http://www.jawpain-tmjtreatment.com/

That was my thinking, wouldn't my permanent retainers make any progress from mewing impossible? I am only wearing permanent retainers in my front teeth (incisors), so I could should still be able to expand the rest of my teeth, right?
Regardless, would permanent retainers also make it impossible to use a palate expander since it wouldn't fit in my mouth?

Cranial Restructuring / Buccal Corridors

What can I do about my poor buccal corridors? My smile is very narrow and I can see the empty space in the smile. Since I am wearing permanent retainers, I might not be able to even use a palate expander sadly. Aside from mewing, do I even have any hope?

Thank you! I am wearing permanent retainers from conventional braces now though, would it screw up with the palate expansion? I am guessing not since the palate expansion expands the outer teeth and not the front teeth, and my retainer only sits in the front teeth, but I want to be sure.

Thanks again, seriously, appreciate it, finally I can fix my smile.

I don't think you'd be able to wear both because the palate expander will basically be like wearing a full sized retainer. The palate expander should also act like a retainer for your front teeth.

also btw any of you guys have resources for self ncr?

Good point... ****, do I have to remove my permanent retainers now? Is there no other way to expand my palate?

I'm surely beyond saving if I can't wear a palate expander now.

First one is the upper Jaw plate which I purchased, second link is the full upper jaw stretching plate which has extra screws by the rear molars. If I would buy again I would buy the full upper jaw stretching plate. Ive also linked to a combo deal which comes with a lower jaw plate. Cant comment on lower jaw expansion its really difficult to expand the lower jaw so probably not worth it. As you advance and swing the maxilla upwards the lower jaw naturally comes up anyways and makes up for the distance (So i've been told).

You wouldn't need a retainer if you had really good oral posture. Your tongue to the palate would support the teeth.

RME is rapid maxillary expansion which is just palate expansion at a faster rate (not favorable)

Yes! braceshop is legit. Make sure to send good moulds and they will fit fine. The best ones imo would be the maxillary plate / the upper jaw plate. If it sits higher in the palate the expansion would be more structural. The Y plate just doesn't really hit the upper areas where it really counts. The other one that looks good is the 3 pin expansion plate which has screws near the back of the molars.

Thank you! Can you link which ones I should buy please? Also, would I need to wear retainers once done with this?
Another question, don't I need to expand my lower jaw as well?

Thanks again  ;D, appreciate it - I've been wanting to do this for some time, but I get easily overwhelmed with all the information and it's not exactly cheap...
